Magical me display board

"Magical me" is such a fun theme to start the school year!
For 2 year olds, it's always fun to do hand prints, and try to build a face with all sorts of resources :D
Here are a few ideas for your display board.
Enjoy!

So, it's hand prints with glitter, paper plate faces with googly eyes and yarn for hair and face templates for the children to colour in.

Mark making and books

It's never too early to teach your little one to be interested in picture books and making marks.
These are all important parts of pre-literacy.
If you're always writing , then I'm sure your little one has tried to take your pen more than once.
Why not create their own writing area on the floor with paper, colored pencils, coloured markers and a white board!
Let them do as they please!
Always supervise. ..cos everything goes in the mouth! :D
Have magazines and booklets around that you don't mind them ripping pages off (what to do!) And watch them turn the pages with those little fingers...what a perfect way for fine motor skills.
Talk about the pictures with them as this helps develop language.

What's in mummy's bag?

They say to never open a lady's purse.
But sometimes, it's a great exercise for your little one.
First,  make sure you take out things that could hurt your LO when they put in the mouth. Leave in soft things like a scarf, an empty and cleaned pot of hand cream, lip gloss,  wallet, etc.
Then let your little one try to manipulate the zipper and if they are successful, they'll be rewarded with stuff to explore in mummy's hand bag! This is called heuristic play; where children explore a variety of thongs, especially natural resources and try to make sense of them.
It's easy to clean up afterwards :D.

As a working mum, I don't always do messy play. But I always make an exception with noodles :D
It's so delightful for the toddler to try to feed himself and then mash it up when he's done. Yes, it's a mess... but sensory play is always a plus! He gains confidence as he can control his own play and decide what to do. He also experiences various textures and sensations with those tiny fingers.

First day of school: Settling in

As an early years practitioner, I've survived a couple years settling in screaming preschoolers. I've seen it all! The quiet- resis...
